There is no grotto building: Santa arrives with reindeer in the opening parade and then stays in Saturday Market, where children can meet him and have a photograph taken.

Visits to Santa at the bigger markets sell out weeks ahead, and times change. Check the organiser's page before you promise anyone.

Getting There and Parking

By Train

Beverley station is managed by Northern and, the organiser says, is served by trains from Hull, York and beyond. The organiser puts it a five-minute walk from the town centre and strongly recommends coming by train or bus, because the town is so busy on the day. In a straight line the station is about a third of a mile from Saturday Market (worked out from the coordinates). National Rail lists step-free access to all platforms, possibly by ramps or the street, and no lifts. Beverley bus station is a one-minute walk from the festival.

Park and Ride

For festival day there is a free park and ride from Beverley Racecourse on York Road, with parking for 500 cars. Two buses shuttle between the racecourse and the town roughly every 10 to 15 minutes. The first leaves the racecourse at 9am and the last bus back from Beverley is at 5pm, an hour after the stalls close. The drop-off is on Wylies Road outside North Bar, about four minutes' walk from Saturday Market, and volunteers are there to help. Follow the brown road signs for the racecourse.

Parking

The organiser asks people not to drive in if they can avoid it. Spaces are limited, there are road closures and parking suspensions on the day, and School Lane car park is kept for pre-booked coaches. East Riding of Yorkshire Council's pages list charges in its Beverley car parks for Monday to Saturday only, so none is shown for a Sunday. Grayburn Lane and Trinity Lane are two of the larger ones. Princes Gardens, off Champney Road, is set aside for Blue Badge holders on festival day. The organiser adds that Flemingate shopping centre has parking for 500 cars at £2 for three hours (read October 2026).

Accessibility

The organiser sets aside Princes Gardens car park, off Champney Road, for Blue Badge holders on the day. Public toilets are on Lord Roberts Road, at the railway station, on Sow Hill Road and on Dyer Lane. The stalls are on largely pedestrianised streets, some of them cobbled, and the town centre is very busy all day. Stewards in high-visibility jackets are posted across the site, and the first aid and lost children point is in Saturday Market near the Market Cross. Fuller access information is in the festival booklet linked from the organiser's Plan Your Visit page.

Quiet Times to Visit

It is a single six-hour day and the organiser says the town centre is very busy throughout. The thickest crowds are for the opening parade, which leaves Wednesday Market at 10am and goes down Toll Gavel to Saturday Market, and around Santa and the reindeer, who stay in Saturday Market until mid afternoon. The organiser's advice is to arrive early, both to make the most of the day and to get a good place for the parade.

What Else Is On

Beverley Minster's Christmas Tree Festival, with 150 decorated real fir trees, runs from Friday 4 to Sunday 13 December 2026, so festival day is the last chance to see it. Entry is £6 for adults and free for accompanied children. On festival day St Mary's Church on North Bar Within holds five short carol services between 10am and 3.30pm, with free entry. The Beverley Reindeer Rampage, a free self-guided trail round the town's shops, is listed from Saturday 7 November to 31 December. Flemingate shopping centre puts on its own stalls, music and a tipi bar.

Where to Stay

Beverley is a small town and the three market areas run along its main street, from Wednesday Market up Toll Gavel to Saturday Market and on to North Bar. Anywhere in the centre, including the streets by the Minster and the station, is within about ten minutes on foot. Hull, which has direct trains to Beverley, is the obvious alternative base.
