Lichfield Christmas Fayre 2026

Lichfield City is the station for the fayre. It is on Birmingham Road, about a quarter of a mile from Market Square in a straight line (worked out from coordinates). Visit Lichfield, the district council's visitor site, says it has direct West Midlands Railway trains to Birmingham and trains on to Lichfield Trent Valley. Trent Valley, off Burton Road, has London Northwestern Railway and Avanti services towards London and the south, and Crewe and the north, but it is more than a mile from the centre: change there for Lichfield City or allow for the walk. National Rail lists step-free access and lifts at both stations.

The fayre is on a Sunday, when Lichfield District Council's city car parks charge a flat £2.10 for the day (read October 2026); charges apply from 7.30am to 6.30pm. Bird Street and Lombard Street are the nearest to Market Square, with the District Council House car park and the Friary multi-storey a little further out. Blue Badge holders park free in disabled bays, and in any other bay when those are full. The Friary multi-storey is ticketless: cameras read your number plate and you pay at a terminal before driving out. The council's website shows live space counts for its main car parks.

The Chamber's page says nothing about access for visitors. It does show that some of the indoor stalls are upstairs, at the Guildhall and at The Hub at St Mary's, without saying whether there is a lift, so ask the organiser if that matters to you. The district council's Shopmobility scheme, which hires out scooters and wheelchairs in the city centre, does not run on Sundays, so it is not available on the day of the fayre.

The city council's Christmas lights switch-on is a week after the fayre, on Sunday 22 November 2026 from 5pm to 8pm in the city centre. Lichfield Cathedral's season comes later: Advent carol services on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November at 6pm, the Christmas Tree Festival from Wednesday 2 December to Sunday 3 January, and the ticketed Christmas light show, Follow the Star, from Tuesday 15 to Monday 21 December. The Mayor's Carols for Christmas is at the Guildhall on Tuesday 8 December from 7pm.

Lichfield's centre is compact: Market Square, the cathedral and Lichfield City station are all within about ten minutes' walk of each other. Staying anywhere between the Cathedral Close and Birmingham Road puts you close to the stalls. Places near Lichfield Trent Valley station are more than a mile out.
