Getting There and Parking

By Train

Exeter has two useful stations, both managed by Great Western Railway and both with step-free access to all platforms. Exeter Central on Queen Street is the nearer: about a third of a mile from Cathedral Green in a straight line, and the Princesshay shopping centre next to the cathedral gives it as a 10 minute walk. Exeter St Davids, the main line station, is about three quarters of a mile away in a straight line. The organiser says both are within walking distance and have direct trains from London, Bristol and Plymouth.

Park and Ride

The organiser asks drivers to use park and ride. There are three sites, with buses run by Stagecoach South West; parking is free and you buy a ticket on the bus. Sowton has the cheapest fares: a return on the PR1 was £3.50 for an adult, £2.40 for a child and £7.00 for a group of up to five in October 2026. Sunday is the catch. Sowton and Matford are closed on Sundays and public holidays, which leaves Honiton Road. Sites are locked after the last bus, so no overnight parking. Honiton Road and Sowton have a 2.1 metre height barrier.

Parking

The organiser recommends three car parks: Princesshay 2, Princesshay 3 and Guildhall. Princesshay 2 (Dix's Field) and Princesshay 3 (Broadwalk) are run by Exeter City Council; we could not open the council's car park pages on the day we checked, so their prices are not given here. The shopping centre runs two others itself, Princesshay 1 off Paris Street and Summerland Gate on Belgrave Road. Both take cards only and have a 1.98 metre height limit. Princesshay 1 has 6 disabled bays and is open 7am to 11pm; Summerland Gate is open 7am to 2am.

Accessibility

There are five ways into the market and the organiser says all but one are step-free. Ramps are put on the steps at the West Front for wheelchairs and buggies, and the paths between the chalets are built wide. The green does have slopes, kerbs onto the grass and cobbled streets around it, and not every chalet can be reached by wheelchair; the organiser says traders will help. Accessible toilets are on site, with more toilets at the Guildhall and Catherine Street. A first aid chalet is near the cathedral entrance.

Where to Stay

Cathedral Green is in the middle of the city, so anywhere around the High Street, Southernhay, Princesshay or Queen Street by Exeter Central is a few minutes on foot. The Quay and the streets near St Davids station are further but still walkable, with a climb up into the centre from either.
