Getting There and Parking
By Train
Edinburgh Waverley is the nearest station. The organiser puts it at about a two-minute walk from the entrance to East Princes Street Gardens and says the most direct way out is the Waverley Bridge exit, which is step-free. LNER runs the East Coast Main Line trains from London King's Cross, York and Newcastle, and also serves Aberdeen and Inverness; other operators use the station too. National Rail lists step-free access to every platform, with lifts. Edinburgh Trams stop at St Andrew Square and Princes Street, both close to the gardens.

Park and Ride
The council lists seven park and ride sites around Edinburgh. Parking is free at all of them except Newcraighall, which charges 50p for 24 hours (read October 2026). Ingliston is served by the tram and Lothian Buses; Newcraighall has trains to Waverley that take about 11 minutes and run roughly every half hour. Ingliston and Straiton shut between 02:00 and 04:00 and do not allow overnight parking. The council pages give no bus or tram fares, so check the operator before you travel. No Christmas market arrangements had been published when we looked.

Parking
The organiser says there is no parking set aside for the event and warns that city centre car parks will be busy, pointing drivers to the park and ride sites instead. The two large car parks closest to the gardens are at Waverley station and St James Quarter. St James Quarter is cashless and sits inside the Low Emission Zone, which runs all day, every day. On-street pay and display bays on Frederick Street, George Street, Hanover Street and King's Stables Road are free for Blue Badge holders with no time limit, according to the organiser.

Accessibility
East Princes Street Gardens can be entered step-free from Princes Street and Waverley Bridge; the accessible gates are the one between the galleries on the Mound and the Waverley Bridge gate. The site is temporary, so the organiser warns that some ramps to stalls are steeper than 1:12. There is an accessible toilet near the Big Wheel (ask security for the key), and the wheel's pods take manual wheelchairs. Sensory backpacks with ear defenders, earplugs and a fidget toy can be borrowed from the information point. Assistance dogs are welcome on the outdoor sites, and essential companions get a free ticket for ticketed events.

Quiet Times to Visit
The organiser treats weekdays as the off-peak time. On weekdays every gate into East Princes Street Gardens is open and there is level access from any of them. At peak times it says to expect a wait or crowds at the entrances, and its opening hours page asks visitors to allow extra time in busy periods. It does not publish quiet hours or a relaxed session for the market itself.

Where to Stay
The market sits between the Old Town and the New Town, so most of central Edinburgh is within walking distance. Anywhere along Princes Street, George Street or around St Andrew Square is a few minutes away on the flat. The Royal Mile and the Grassmarket are just as close on the map but involve a climb. Haymarket and the West End are a longer walk or a short tram ride.
