Getting There and Parking

By Train

Southampton Central is the station to use. It is managed by South Western Railway, whose trains run from London Waterloo, Winchester and Bournemouth. Visit Southampton also lists Southern services from Brighton and Gatwick, Great Western Railway from Bristol, Salisbury and Portsmouth, and CrossCountry from Oxford, Birmingham and Manchester. The organiser gives no walking distance. In a straight line the station is roughly half a mile west of the Bargate end of the market (our estimate from map coordinates). National Rail lists step-free access to all platforms.

Park and Ride

Southampton has a weekend park and ride rather than a daily one. You park in the multi-storey at the Adanac Health and Innovation Campus and take the PR1 bus, which stops at Southampton Central station, Westquay or the Albion Place bus hub. It runs on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, and tickets are sold on the bus or in the Bluestar app. Visit Hampshire's 2026 market listing gives the fare as £3 (read October 2026). The organiser's own park and ride page still shows last winter's dates, so check the fare and dates before relying on it.

Parking

The largest car parks beside the market are the two at Westquay shopping centre, entered from Harbour Parade: the Multi-Storey and the Podium. Westquay's own page gives the sat nav postcode, spaces and height limits but no tariff, so we cannot give a price. Payment is by number plate recognition, either with a registered account or by card or QR code before you leave. Visit Southampton says the city council's parking map lists council car parks with postcodes, charges and opening hours.

Where to Stay

The market runs along Above Bar Street between the Bargate and Guildhall Square, which is the middle of the shopping area. Anywhere in the city centre is within a few minutes on foot: around the station and Westquay to the west, the Cultural Quarter by the Guildhall to the north, or the Old Town and waterfront south of the Bargate, which is ten to fifteen minutes' walk.
