Getting There and Parking

By Train

Manchester has two main stations. Piccadilly, managed by Network Rail, is about 0.7 miles from Albert Square in a straight line; Victoria, managed by Northern, is about 0.55 miles. Both have Metrolink tram stops, and trams from Victoria run through the centre towards Piccadilly and Deansgate. A free city centre bus runs from Piccadilly station by way of Piccadilly Gardens, King Street and Market Street, about every ten minutes. Visit Manchester also lists Oxford Road and Deansgate as city centre stations, and says the centre can be crossed on foot in around 30 minutes.

Park and Ride

There is no dedicated Christmas market park and ride. Instead, Transport for Greater Manchester runs park and ride car parks at tram stops, railway stations and guided busway stops around the region. At the Metrolink sites parking is free if you hold a valid tram ticket, and the tram takes you into the city centre. Four of the larger tram sites are below; the Bee Network website lists the rest. Overnight parking is not allowed at Sale Water Park, and at the others only on Friday and Saturday nights.

Parking

Visit Manchester's advice is to come by public transport: it says parking and traffic are particularly busy at weekends and peak festive periods. If you do drive, Q-Park suggests its Piazza car park in Chinatown for Albert Square and gives the walk as 4 minutes. Its Deansgate North car park is described as a short distance from Victoria station and the Arndale. Q-Park showed no tariffs online for either when we looked, so check the price before you set off. The council's own car park pages could not be read, so its car parks are not listed here.

What Else Is On

Skate Manchester, the ice rink, is listed by Visit Manchester from 6 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, the same dates as the extended market sites at Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens. Out of the centre, the Northern Lights trail at Heaton Park runs from 19 November to 31 December 2026 with a new theme this year, A Christmas Time Machine. Visit Manchester says more 2026 Christmas event details are still to be announced.

Where to Stay

The market sites are spread across the middle of the city centre, so most central areas are within ten to fifteen minutes' walk of one of them. The streets around Albert Square, Deansgate, King Street and St Peter's Square are closest to the Albert Square site. The Northern Quarter and the area round Victoria station suit the Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square end. Piccadilly and Oxford Road are a little further but still walkable, and on the tram.
