This is a seated storytelling session of about 45 minutes to an hour with Father Christmas and an elf, for up to 20 children at a time, where each child tells Santa their wishes and gets a gift; it is not a walk-through grotto.

Visits to Santa at the bigger markets sell out weeks ahead, and times change. Check the organiser's page before you promise anyone.

Getting There and Parking

By Train

Liverpool Lime Street is directly opposite St George's Hall. The organiser gives it as a 5-minute walk to the site, and Liverpool Central as about 10 minutes. Lime Street is managed by Network Rail and has a mobility team on duty from 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00 to 22:00 on Sundays. Queen Square bus station is also given as 5 minutes away. If you arrive from Lime Street, the entrances on that side of the site are the level ones.

Parking

The organiser mentions St Johns Shopping Centre car park, across from St George's Place, and a few Blue Badge bays on nearby streets including William Brown Street, which is cobbled. St Johns is open 24 hours with a 1.98 metre height limit. The council's small surface car parks at Hunter Street and Fontenoy Street are open 7.30am to 7.30pm only, so they do not suit an evening visit. Mount Pleasant multi-storey has no working lifts at present. Blue Badge holders park free in council pay and display bays and most council car parks; at Mount Pleasant that applies only in the 37 disabled bays on level 5.

Accessibility

The main entrance to the site is up a flight of steps, but the entrances from Lime Street are level, and the accessible toilets are at the Lime Street entrance. About half the site is tarmac and the rest is cobbled; the organiser says matting will be laid over the cobbles on the main routes, though some uneven ground will remain. The site is mostly on one level apart from the Boot Room viewing bar. Assistance dogs are welcome. Wheelchair users can go on the rink, with powered chairs switched off on the ice. One free companion ticket is available for a personal assistant or carer, booked through the Underbelly box office.

What Else Is On

Liverpool's other large Christmas site this year is Liverpool Christmas Wonderland at the Pier Head, run by Icebox Live, from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. It has a covered ice rink, rides, a Santa's grotto and food stalls, and its organiser puts it about fifteen minutes' walk from Lime Street. The council has also said pop-up seasonal markets will be held at Basnett Street and the Cunard Building on selected dates, but those dates had not been announced when we checked. Liverpool City Halls lists carol concerts and other Christmas events in St George's Hall without dates on its programme page.

Where to Stay

The market is beside Lime Street station, so anywhere around Lime Street, Queen Square, William Brown Street and the main shopping streets is a few minutes' walk. Ropewalks, the business district around Dale Street and Liverpool ONE are roughly ten to fifteen minutes on foot. The waterfront and Albert Dock are further, at around twenty minutes.
