Getting There and Parking

By Train

Cardiff Central is the main station and the organiser puts it at a 5 minute walk from the market. Cardiff Queen Street, on the other side of the shopping centre, is about a third of a mile from St John Street in a straight line and is handy if you are coming in on a local or Valleys train. Both stations are managed by Transport for Wales and both have step-free access to all platforms. The organiser says trains reach Cardiff Central from across the UK, including a regular service from London Paddington.

Parking

The stalls are in pedestrian streets, so you park in one of the city centre car parks and walk. Visit Cardiff's list is below; St David's is much the largest and sits beside the market streets. Cardiff has no bus park and ride into the centre. Visit Cardiff suggests parking free at a suburban station instead, such as Taffs Well (M4 junction 32) or Pye Corner (junction 27), and taking the train to Cardiff Central or Queen Street. Blue Badge holders park free in council car parks except on major event days; private operators usually still charge. At the council's North Road car park, up to four hours cost £5 on weekdays and £1.50 on Sundays (October 2026).

Accessibility

The market is on wide pedestrian shopping streets and the organiser says there is room to browse even at busy times. It publishes little else on access and refers visitors to Visit Cardiff. From there: scooters and wheelchairs can be borrowed free for the day from St David's shopping centre, on level P3 of the car park, Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm, booked at least 48 hours ahead. The organiser also mentions the free city centre mobility buggy, but Visit Cardiff's page said that service was temporarily unavailable when we checked in October 2026.

What Else Is On

Cardiff's Winter Wonderland, with ice skating, fairground rides, food and bars, opens the same day as the market and runs from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. It is on two sites, Cardiff Castle and City Hall Lawn, both a short walk from the stalls. The city centre Christmas lights are also switched on from Thursday 12 November, in Queen Street, The Hayes, St Mary Street and the arcades. The market itself finishes on 23 December, so Winter Wonderland carries on for a further eleven days.

Where to Stay

The market streets are in the middle of the shopping area between the castle and St David's, and the organiser says most of the city centre's shops, arcades and restaurants are within a 5 minute walk. Anywhere in the city centre, around Cardiff Central or along Cathedral Road in Pontcanna is walkable. Cardiff Bay is further out; the train from Cardiff Bay station or a bus brings you back into the centre.
