Getting There and Parking
By Train
Bury St Edmunds station, on Station Hill, is the only station in the town and is managed by Greater Anglia. The cathedral says it is about a 15-minute walk away; in a straight line the station is roughly 0.7 miles north of the cathedral (worked out from the coordinates). Greater Anglia says both platforms have step-free access by lift. The toilets, including an accessible one opened with a RADAR key, are reached from Platform 2, the side for trains towards Stowmarket and Ipswich.

For longer, West Suffolk Council's Ram Meadow long stay car park on Cotton Lane has 823 spaces at £3.00 for up to three hours or £3.50 all day. Chequer Square and Lower Baxter Street are small short-stay car parks, also limited to two hours. Accessibility
The cathedral says the building is wheelchair accessible and has accessible toilets, though a few parts, such as the Ancient Library, are not accessible. For detail it links to an access guide rather than publishing its own. It has said nothing specific about access during the market, when more than 50 stallholders set up inside and bags may be searched at the door. Blue Badge holders can use the seven disabled spaces on Angel Hill, opposite the cathedral, free for up to three hours.

What Else Is On
The town's Christmas Lights Event, run by Our Bury St Edmunds BID, comes a week before the market, on Thursday 19 November 2026 from 3pm to 8pm, and is free. At the cathedral, tower tours are listed alongside the market from 26 to 28 November. Its December listings include Christmas by Candlelight on 4 December, Christmas with the Cathedral Choir on 12 December at 6pm, and Nine Lessons and Carols on 22 and 23 December.

Where to Stay
The cathedral is on Angel Hill, on the eastern edge of the old town centre beside the Abbey Gardens. The grid of streets around Abbeygate Street, Churchgate Street and the Buttermarket is all within about five minutes on foot. The station is about 15 minutes' walk away, so places on that side of town are still walkable.
