Getting There and Parking

By Train

Norwich station, on Station Approach, is managed by Greater Anglia, which lists journeys from London Liverpool Street (from 1 hour 50 minutes) and Cambridge (from 1 hour 25 minutes). Greater Anglia calls it a 15-minute walk to the city centre, but Chapelfield Gardens is on the far side of the centre: about 0.85 miles from the station in a straight line (from the coordinates), so allow longer. First buses 25 and 35 run from the station forecourt into the city centre. National Rail lists step-free access to all platforms.

Park and Ride

Norfolk County Council has five park and ride sites serving the city centre: Airport, Thickthorn and Sprowston, run by First Bus, and Harford and Postwick, run by Central Connect. Parking is free and you pay on the bus: £3 per adult, £2 for ages 5 to 19 and concession pass holders, £4 for two people or £5 for a group of up to five (October 2026). Most sites have a bus about every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sundays; Postwick is half-hourly and hourly. Sites close about 30 minutes after the last bus and the market runs to 9pm, so check the last departure. A sixth site, Costessey, does not serve the centre.

Parking

The organiser points drivers to the multi-storeys at Chantry Place and Castle Quarter, and warns that car parks near the gardens fill quickly at peak times. Norwich City Council's own nearest are Chapel Field East on Chapel Field Road, Chantry on Theatre Street and the St Giles multi-storey. Daytime charges run to 6.30pm, then a flat evening charge applies, and a stay that crosses 6.30pm pays both. Blue Badge holders get an extra free hour for each hour bought at the two surface car parks, and half price at St Giles. Prices read October 2026.

Quiet Times to Visit

The organiser says weekday mornings and early afternoons, 10am to 3pm, are the quietest, and those are also the hours when entry is free. From 3pm on weekdays and all day at weekends adults pay £2, a charge the organiser says is there to keep the busiest times comfortable. Weekend evenings are the liveliest, with entertainment and the market lit up.

The centre, the Norwich Lanes and the streets just west of the gardens are all within about ten to fifteen minutes on foot.
