Bakewell Christmas Market 2026

Bakewell has no railway station, so a train journey ends with a bus. The market's own page points visitors to three bus routes: from Sheffield (the 218, which also calls at Chatsworth), from Chesterfield (the 170) and from Derby (the 6.1, which comes up through Matlock). Chatsworth's travel page confirms the 170 starts at Chesterfield railway station and that the 218 leaves from Sheffield Interchange, across the road from Sheffield station. Matlock, a station managed by East Midlands Railway, is the closest at about seven miles in a straight line. The organisers ask people to use public transport if they can, because the roads into town get congested over the weekend.

The organisers send drivers to the Agricultural Business Centre car park off Agricultural Way. It is the district council's biggest in Bakewell, with 420 spaces, and is where coaches park too. The stalls stand on Market Street, Granby Road and Riverside Crescent, so do not count on the small Granby Road and Market Place car parks in the middle of town on market days. Charges below were read in October 2026 and apply 8am to 6pm, every day. Blue Badge holders pay but get an extra hour on top of the time bought.

The market's page says very little on access. What it does say is that the event is held in the town centre on hard standing, so the stalls are on tarmac streets, not grass. The district council lists ten disabled bays at the Agricultural Business Centre car park, where the organisers direct drivers, and six each at Granby Road and Market Place. Blue Badge holders pay the normal charge in council car parks and get an extra hour. Nothing is published about accessible toilets, quiet sessions or mobility scooter hire for the weekend.

Two bigger Christmas markets near Bakewell are open the same weekend, and both need booking. Haddon Hall, outside the town, holds its Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market from Wednesday 11 November to Sunday 20 December 2026, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, with timed tickets bought ahead. Chatsworth Christmas Market, on the 218 and 170 bus routes from Bakewell, runs from 7 November to 13 December 2026; entry is free but parking has to be pre-booked. Back in town, the Bakewell market itself has brass and silver bands, choirs and street entertainment across the weekend.

Bakewell is a small town and the whole centre is within a few minutes' walk of the stalls, from the streets around Rutland Square and Matlock Street to the riverside by the bridge. Places on the edge of town are still walkable. The villages around it, such as Ashford in the Water, Baslow and Rowsley, need a car or a bus.
